How Particle uses AI.

When you submit a written answer, Particle sends the question, its marking criteria and your answer to Claude, a model made by Anthropic. The model decides the total mark the way HSC marking guidelines do, using a ladder of band descriptors we write for every question, then explains it as a per-mark breakdown: what each mark was for and whether you earned it. You then see the worked solution. If you upload a photo of handwritten work, the model reads the photo directly.

Multiple-choice questions are checked against the answer key on our own server. No AI is involved.

A senior re-mark, available on any written answer, sends the same answer to a larger model for a second opinion.

• The question, the marking criteria, the worked solution, and your answer as text or as the photo you uploaded.
• Nothing that identifies you: no name, email, username or account details.
• Under the terms we use Anthropic on, your answers are not used to train their models. Processing happens in the United States.

Keep answers to your Physics or Chemistry working. Do not type personal details, other people's information or anything sensitive into an answer, and crop photos to the working.

The marker is calibrated against real HSC marking guidelines and we audit its marks regularly, but it is a model. It can misread handwriting, miss a valid method it did not expect, or land a mark too high or too low. So:

• Every result is checked before you see it: whole marks only, the breakdown must add up to the mark, and no unfinished or placeholder text gets through. A broken result is marked again.
• The marker is told never to withhold a mark for rounding, notation, a unit written in another correct form, layout, or legibility, and to award any physically valid method, whether or not the worked solution used it.
• If a mark looks wrong, use the re-mark button for a second opinion, or the flag on the question to tell us. We read every flag.
• If you pay for Unlimited and a fault stops you using it in a way we cannot fix, we refund the current period. See the Terms of Use.

Treat a Particle mark as a strong guide to how an HSC marker would see your answer, never as an official result. Your school's assessment is the real thing; Particle is how you get ready for it.

• Particle covers NSW HSC Physics and Chemistry only. It is not a general chatbot and gives no medical, legal, personal or safety advice.
• Questions and worked solutions are reviewed before students see them.
• Feedback is written to a fixed style and checked for errors before display. Anything that looks unsafe or inappropriate can be flagged from the question itself.

Particle is built to help you understand the material and practise under exam conditions. Do not submit its worked solutions or feedback as your own schoolwork, and do not use it during any exam or assessment where outside help is not allowed. See the Terms of Use.
